Frequently Asked Questions

What is Krav Maga? Krav Maga is an Israeli Self-Defense system that is taught to and used by elite Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). It was developed specifically for real-world self-defense and includes scenario training. Modern Krav Maga incorporates striking, escapes, standup grappling, ground fighting and modern weapon defenses. It is not a fighting system, it is a self-defense system where the ultimate goal is to protect yourself and others from life-threatening attacks, counter-attack and then quickly disengage to escape the violence. There are no Krav Maga competitions or tournaments because it is not a sport. In fact, many techniques used in Krav Maga would be considered illegal in organized fighting sports such as MMA, Boxing, Karate, Taekwondo Do and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments because they are designed to cause serious injury to an attacker.

What is Integrated Survival Combatives (ISC) Fighting Pistol (FP)? ISC/FP is very unique and extremely rare in today’s training world. ISC/FP is a complete system of fighting while carrying and/or deploying and shooting a pistol in a self-defense context. It’s like Krav Maga, Combatives, Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Street Fighting, Concealed Carry, Tactical Pistol, Situational Awareness, Deadly Force Law and Self-Defense Class seamlessly integrated together. This system teaches you how to protect yourself from threats of serious bodily injury or death. It teaches you how and when to use Deadly Force techniques and transition to your pistol. If you carry a pistol for work or self-defense, you should be in this class!

Am I too out of shape to start training Krav Maga or Combatives? No. This is a common question and an often used excuse to put training off. The facts are clear, you must be able to protect yourself just as you are today and not how you hope to be at some point in the future. Training Krav Maga will increase your mobility, balance, flexibility, cardio and strength. All of this happens while you are training and learning how to protect yourself.

Do I need previous training or experience? No. Krav Maga is one of the simplier systems using natural movements so learning it is faster and easier than most Martial Arts. If you have previous training it may help you learn faster, perform better and advance sooner. The best time to start training is 10 years ago and the next best time is today…

Can I train if I have a disability? Probably. You must be able to protect yourself how you are today. While some disabilities make that extremely difficult, most people will find that they can learn and use basic self-defense strategies, tactics and techniques. If you are unsure, we are happy to discuss options with you. We always offer one complimentary class to interested students so you can try us out with no risk.

Can Reticent Warrior help guide me to the class I need next? Absolutely. If you are unsure of what class or course you should take, feel free to give us a call, text or email. Our goal is to help you move your personal performance forward and not waste time or money in the process.

Do you offer discounts if I take multiple classes or programs? Yes. Full-time Krav Maga students receive substantial discounts on all of our programs including ISC Fighting Pistol and other Firearms courses.

What about discounts for other family members? Reticent Warrior Krav Maga offers a 40% discount to second, third, etc. family members. We understand training can be expensive, but we also know how important it is. That’s why we offer discounts to our loyal students.

Do you offer First Responders, Police and Military discounts on your courses? Yes. We always give a discount to active duty law enforcement, military and first responders who are paying for their own training. You just need to email us a copy of your active ID and we’ll email you a discount code to use at checkout. We occasionally offer other discounts to law enforcement, military and the general public as well so be sure to sign up for our Newsletter to be the first to know.

Battle Buddy Program - The Battle Buddy program is designed specifically for law enforcement and military personnel who are paying for their own training. This is one of the ways in which Reticent Warrior supports and gives back to our military and law enforcement warriors. This program is limited in duration, is only for self-pay training for law enforcement/military and is not available for all programs. Contact us to learn more.

Do you only train law enforcement and military? No, we are law enforcement/military focused but we train lots of citizens who can legally possess a firearm, wants to learn self-defense and have a desire to improve their skillset.

Are Tactical and Combat courses just designed for law enforcement and military? No. All of our courses are designed to teach skills that will work in any high-threat environment whether in a war-zone, on the street or in your own home.

Am I required to have all previous courses before I can take one of your Advanced courses? No, but it is highly recommended. If you are already highly skilled with your pistol or rifle and have completed other similar high quality training with that weapons system, you can go straight to Fundamentals of Tactical Pistol or Rifle. You must then complete an Advanced level 1 course from us prior to taking an Advanced level 2 course. This is because all of our courses build on each other and so you are familiar with the previous skills, techniques, drills and terminology. We can sometimes make exceptions for highly trained students such as on SWAT or from Military Special Operations.

Do I have to be a good shot to take your firearms courses? No, we have courses for absolutely beginners such as our Handgun Fundamentals. If you are taking other Tactical courses you need to be able to safely handle, load, unload and shoot your firearm. You need to have the fundamentals of marksmanship down before taking any of our Tactical courses.

Do I have to be in great physical condition to take your firearms courses? No. You need to be healthy but not in great shape. While our advanced courses use SIT (stress inoculation training) they don’t require you to be in great physical condition. We train to increase “your” personal performance so you are competing with yourself whether you are very fit or not so much.

Do I need a full kit or a lot of tactical gear to take your courses? No. We are happy to train you with whatever you have as long as it is safe. While having gear helps, our training is not about the gear or the guns, it’s about you. Training in your gear is just another way to improve your real-world performance and to add to your overall experience. If you are an armed citizen and never wear tactical gear then you are welcome to train with your everyday carry weapon/holster.

Do I have to be a member of 17 South Rod and Gun Club to attend a course? No. Anyone can attend our courses. There is a small range fee of $25.00 charged by 17 South for non-members (like most private clubs) but the gate will be open on class day to allow you easy access.

Do I need the exact amount of ammo listed in the minimum requirements to take a course? No. We allow you to do some dry firing of drills to conserve ammo if needed so just let us know. While the ammo requirements for each course allow you to get the most out of the training, we understand that ammo prices are high and add to your expenses.

Hosting a training course? Any agency, department, club or good citizen can host one of our training events. We require a minimum of 10 fully registered students prior to travel. Please contact us for more information on how to schedule your event.

Police/Military Departments/Agencies - If your department, agency or unit is interested in hosting training, creating a special training event or sending multiple personnel to our training, please contact us. We offer several different options to help you extend your training budget.
